Farm and Ranch Insurance

The Agri-Range offered by Farmer's Alliance Insurance through our agency starts with protection that’s similar to a homeowners policy, but expands to provide coverage for the special risks of a farm or ranch, including liability coverage. Additionally we can help you obtain other specialized insurance protections such as vehicles and equipment, livestock, umbrella, and flood, to name a few.

Farm/Ranch Property and Liability

PROPERTY COVERAGES

Coverage A - Residence Covers the residence, including additions and built-in components.

Coverage B - Related Private Structures Covers unattached structures related to the residence. Coverage also applies to fences, driveways, sidewalks and other permanently installed outdoor fi xtures, within 250 feet of the residence.

Coverage C - Personal Property Covers household personal property owned by or in the care of the insured. There are Special Limits for some Coverage C items (money, securities, watercraft, jewelry, etc.), which can be personalized for your specific needs. Some coverage is available for outdoor antennas, well pumps, and private power and light poles.

Coverage D - Additional Living Costs & Loss of Rent Covers increased living costs and loss of rent or fair rental value that occur when an insured loss makes the insured premises unfit for use.

Coverage E - Farm Barns, Buildings and Structures Covers farm barns, buildings, and other structures, including attached sheds and fixtures, additional farm dwellings, silos, portable buildings and structures.

Coverage F - Scheduled Farm Personal Property Covers specifically listed classes or items of farm personal property, both on and off premises. Some examples are, but not limited to: machinery, livestock, rented or borrowed equipment, hay in the open and in buildings, and grain in buildings.

Automobile/Farm Vehicle

Our Automobile Insurance policies provide coverage for Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability to others, as well as Physical Damage Coverage for your auto.

Bodily Injury Liability provides coverage for your legal responsibilities for accidents causing injuries to other drivers, pedestrians and passengers. Our Property Damage Liability coverage provides protection for accidents that damage the property of others. Legal defense costs, if any, are also covered. Other coverages may apply depending on the specific state in which a policy is written.

Uninsured and/or Underinsured Motorist coverages protect you or a member of your family from the cost of an injury in an accident if it was caused by a motorist without insurance coverage or without sufficient insurance coverage to pay the full amount you are legally entitled to receive as damages.

Our Automobile policies offer various options to help you get the most out of your insurance coverage. We offer Collision coverage to cover the costs of repair from the damage caused to your car by another vehicle. We also offer Other Than Collision coverage for fire, theft, vandalism, glass breakage and other perils. You can add coverage for towing and labor charges in the event your car is disabled, and Rental Reimbursement coverage will pay for the cost of a rental car following a loss to your car.

Additionally, our farm automobile policy can be utilized to protect your farm trucks and trailers for these same coverages. Our optional "lay-up" credits provide you the flexibility of obtaining a discount for the winter months that certain vehicles are not in use.

Livestock

Under the standard coverage form, livestock can be protected against death or destruction directly resulting from or made necessary by:

Fire and lightning; Windstorm; Hail; Explosion; Earthquake; Riot, riot attending a strike and civil commotion; Collapse of bridges or culverts; Flood; Collision or derailment or overturn of the vehicle on which the insured property is being transported; collision with other vehicles except  those  owned or operated by the Insured or by any tenant of the Insured; Smoke; Aircraft and objects falling therefrom; Stranding, sinking, burning or collision of vessels; and Vandalism & Malicious Mischief.

Additionally, the standard coverage protects livestock against theft, excluding escape or mysterious disappearance.

Expanded livestock perils can be obtained as an option to protect against loss resulting from death caused by accidental shooting, drowning, attack by dogs or wild animals, and collapse of a building and loss resulting from death caused by freezing or smothering in snowstorms or ice storms and falling through ice.

Equipment

Perils Insured Against on the standard form for Coverage G - Unscheduled Farm Personal Property includes direct losses caused by: Fire or Lightning,  Theft, Windstorm or Hail, Explosion, Riot or Civil Commotion, Smoke, Vehicles, Aircraft, Vandalism , and Collision. However, coverage can be obtained on an "open peril" basis which greatly broadens the covered causes of loss and includes foreign object intake coverage (ingestion coverage).

Coverage F - Scheduled Farm Personal Property Covers specifically listed classes or items of farm personal property, both on and off premises. Some examples are, but not limited to: machinery, livestock, rented or borrowed equipment, hay in the open and in buildings, and grain in buildings.

Coverage G - Unscheduled Farm Personal Property Covers farm personal property used in the farming operation, both on and off premises on a blanket basis (items need not be specifi cally identified). The same categories of items can be covered under Coverage F and/or Coverage G.

Umbrella

Our Farm Umbrella product addresses growing liability exposures facing farmowners today. Farm consolidation, more farm help, increasing use of owned vehicles to move commodities, livestock, and equipment, and the threat of litigation have increased liability risk on the farm. Our Farm Liability Umbrella can address this need and protect the farmowner from having to sell farm assets after an unfavorable litigation. It wraps around farm and farm business auto liability and can be extended to include personal liability if written over farm commercial liability. Such versatility might make all the difference to you.

Flood

Flood is NOT covered under a farmowner's policy, thus a separate policy must be obtained for this protection. Under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) a flood is defined as a general and temporary condition of partial or complete inundation of normally dry land by:
condition, the flood must affect either two or more adjacent properties or two or more acres of land and have a distinct beginning point and ending point. Also, to qualify, the flood waters can only be surface water that covers land that is normally dry.

  • The overflow of inland or tidal waters.
  • The unusual and rapid accumulation or runoff of surface waters from any source.
  • Mudslides (i.e., mudflows) which are proximately caused by flooding, as defined above and are akin to a river of liquid and flowing mud on the surfaces of normally dry land areas, including your premises, as when earth is carried by a current of water and deposited along the path of the current.
  • The collapse or subsidence of land along the shore of a lake or other body of water as a result of erosion or undermining caused by waves or currents of water exceeding the cyclical levels which result in flood as defined above.

To qualify as a general and temporary condition, the flood must affect either two or more adjacent properties or two or more acres of land and have a distinct beginning point and ending point. Also, to qualify, the flood waters can only be surface water that covers land that is normally dry.

Flood protection can be obtained protecting the actual structure of your home or farm outbuilding as well as your  belongings within the structure with some restrictions. There are specific guidelines governing protection of items and regulating when coverage can be placed into effect (often there is a 30 day waiting period). Consult with one of our agents to determine the specifics.
